The Mission of the Brookings Conservation District is to promote the conservation, stewardship, and wise use of the natural resources.  In doing so, the District encourages and assists all farmers and landowners of Brookings County to conserve their natural resources. Emphasis is placed on education, planning, and the application of conservation practices. To be effective, the District must combine the efforts of local, county, state, and federal governmental entities as well as private organizations and individuals.

One of the many responsibilities that are handled by the District is encouraging land users to properly apply and maintain conservation practices which are practical and economically feasible. The District helps tailor their programs to each individual land user’s needs.

The District provides support to land users who seek technical assistance to enroll in various government programs, helps the public with complying with the Sediment and Erosion control ordinance, and assists with securing state and local funding for specialized projects.
